Simple Impressions

Once upon a time, I wanted to do a website about myself that covered the whole gamut of my life. History, list of links, photo scans, directions to my house, etc. Complete with gaudy page colours and miserable-looking web graphics.

Inevitably, I awoke from the absurdity. Who the heck wants directions to my house anyway? Hence this much simpler place. Welcome to Simple Impressions v4.

Yes, I've done this before, and I'm sure I didn't escape entirely from my original vision of a personal homepage (i.e. colours, miserable, etc). But I hope at least you didn't fall off your chair.

Currently, the only things I have up are my Codemill and my little photo Gallery.

I just put up the latest otak pages, in tandem with the new release of otak a few days ago. Please do not be disoriented with the difference in look between the otak pages and simpleimpression's own pages. I've actually been working very hard (hah!) on the new look for si, but as with all things that I start, I cannot finish it in time. Only the otak pages now bear the eventually new look for si. Also, now you can see that I've been updating otak's What's News pages, while neglecting this one.

I'll probably find the time to update it when the stars and moon align themselves in the universe again, the celestial bodies signalling me to get to work.

Believe it or not, there really isn't a big a chasm as you might think looking at the date of update for this post and the last one. I have been updating, but not in the manner you're familiar with (i.e. seeing it for yourselves). But I've been writing lots of stuff since early this year to prep for an overhaul of si (yes, the colours have finally gotten to me now - grey sidebar, what was i thinking?!).

Yes, it's official, otak 0.9.7 is now up in Simtel. It's miles better than the old one, simply because it's more stable and goodness, it can perform searches! :) Goto otak's page in the Codemill for more information on the upgrade.

I wrote a short (hah!) rant on Feb 1st, but it's somehow up here now. I just wrote it for myself, actually, when I was beside myself in excitement over XML (hah!), so I don't know how it got there. How the heck did it get there ???

Oh joy, another update to the webpage. Okay, so it's nothing too spectacular, only the NEW RELEASE of otak! Please wait for a bit though, I'm only uploading it to Simtel today, and it will take some time to propagate to the mirrors.

I've gotta change the layout of Simple Impressions soon - it's beginning to look terrible.

Updated otak's page in Codemill - added some FAQs and a link to Microsoft's MDAC, which I believe is the cause of some of the problems that has been reported to me. I'm adding some stuff to otak as opposed to quickly finishing my milestone for the next release, so this is holding me up a bit.

Had a great gathering with the MBS gang on Sunday. Kin Wah, the mastermind, had arranged for a low sang session in Pik Wah Restaurant. Attendees are: Foong Ming, Foo Yew, Jun Yong, Park Hoa, Tuck Weng, Tuan Oon and myself, with the surprise late inclusion of Rodney Chua, he who was lost for many years. :) Go on to the gallery for the pictures!

Committed cardinal sin when it comes to development - I didn't segregate my development environment from my actual working environment. Because of this, I didn't see a lot of errors that my "early adopter" users are seeing. I'm working on it... Hopefully a new version will be out just after Chinese New Year.

Merry Christmas everybody! Hope everyone's in the mood for the holidays.

I've found out at as of today, I already have 74 downloads of otak, but curiously, only one person has (apparently) used it and have given me feedback on it. I'm more than interested to know where the software has visited, especially if they've gone to countries I know little about, so that I can get them to talk about their home.
